Bethany Women's Bible Study / Marisa Gronholz
Eve, Sarah, Hagar, Miriam...These are just a few of the women you will meet this summer if you participate in the second session of the Bethany Women's Bible Study on "Women of the Old Testament." There is still time to sign up for our summer session (May 5-Sept 1) which will meet on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month. You can be part of either the morning study (9:30-11:00 am) or the evening study (7:00-8:30 pm). Both groups meet in the Parlor. Childcare is available for the morning session only.

Contact Marisa Gronholz (marisa@spu.edu) or Lynn Beaumont (newhatdsl@msn.com) for more information. If you are unable to join us for the summer, we will be starting our new session on October 5. We will be studying 1 & 2 Corinthians, specificially focusing on what it means to live together in community. It should be a great study.

Children's Ministries

Summer Sunday Mornings for Children
From June 21 through September 6, we ask parents who do not normally teach in the Children's Ministries program to take a turn with the kids. Parents with older elementary age children are encouraged to serve in a pre-school class together as a family, since pre-schoolers love older kids and it’s great for these older kids to use their God given gifts with young children!

If you are not a parent of a child (ie., an empty nester, or grandparent, or parent of a teen, or not a parent) and would like to assist a time or two or three with our fabulous Bethany children, we’d LOVE that! Please contact Dianne and give her some possible dates and your first choice of age group.

Job Opening: Director for Special Needs
This new position which will begin on July 1, 2009. This Director will recruit and train “buddy coordinators” and then work alongside those coordinators to recruit, train, support and appreciate our “buddies” who work 1-2 times a month with a child with special needs. The person will also provide pastoral support to these families, and will help educate our congregation on how to include these families and children. He/she will work from home, 6 hours a week. For application and job description please contact Dianne Ross (dianner@bethanypc.org).

Families in Service Kicks off in June
The whole Bethany family (infants to seniors!) is invited to learn more about the 20+ ways all of us can be involved in outreach this summer through the Families in Service Ministries. On Sunday, June 7, you are invited to the “Families in Service KICK OFF” in the Fellowship Hall after both morning services.

Bethany Children to Serve the children of Christ Gift Academy in Kenya
Donate gently used or new books to the children at Christ Gift Academy in Kenya. This project was Maxine Talbert’s dream and idea, and we are delighted to carry it out in her honor. Learn more about what kind of books to bring, at the “CGA book drive” table at the FIS kickoff on June 7, and start bringing books on June 14!

Session Notes
On Tuesday, May 12, 2009 the Elders gathered in the Parlor for the monthly Session meeting. The meeting began in prayer and Chuck McFarland provided a short devotional. The group talked about Maxine Talbert’s passing and spent some time praying for Gary and Emily.

Pastor Dan led a conversation on worship, the presence of the Holy Spirit, manifestation of gifts and the mystery of God. Bethany has a charismatic tradition with it’s origins in the 60’s and 70’s that continues today. We reviewed some of what scripture has to say about the Holy Spirit in worship and shared in small groups and as a body our experiences with charismatic gifts.

Time was spent praying, sharing stories and saying goodbye to the departing elders.
